Seaside Restaurant

The Seaside Restaurant is located in Vesuvius Bay next to the Vesuvius Ferry Terminal and is the place to go for fish and chips (and more).

Serving fresh local seafood, including Halibut, Salt Spring Island Mussels and Fanny Bay Oysters. Also salads, homemade burgers, pastas, steaks and local produce. Open year round for lunch and dinner with a south west view of the calm waters of Samson Narrows – the licensed deck is a great place to capture the sunset.

They also have a to go window in the summer if you want to grab take away and head to the beech, and they will take orders over the phone. My advice is unless you want to go and eat elsewhere then eat in the restaurant or on the deck and let someone else take care of the clearing up – its doesn’t cost any more that the take out, . . . → Read More: Seaside Restaurant

Tree House Cafe

Tree House Cafe Salt Spring Island

Right in the heart of Ganges (near Home Hardware) – this little place makes its reputation around live music. Its always worth checking to see whats going on, and getting there early – it often fills up. There are lots of local artists playing here and there is usually a great atmosphere with people spilling out onto the surrounding area to listen to the tunes.

A personal favourite is the beer and burger special on Thursday evenings.

Food is generally good – service sometimes seems a little distracted – live entertainment is great!

106 Purvis Lane

A locally owned coffee shop right in the heart of Ganges serving organic coffee and range of snacks, sandwiches and sweet treats. You can sit inside, or outside on the covered side walk and watch the world go by. There is also WiFi access and power if you need somewhere to get on-line.

Service can seem a little distracted at times, but the coffee and food is good!

Salt Spring Inn

A great place for casual dining. There is a bar area where you can have a drink, and a full service restaurant. The burgers are all great – I love the lamburini personally. Servers are professional, friendly and knowledgeable. We have experienced a bit of a wait for food in the height of the summer, but recent experiences have all been good. Also a great place to go in a group.

Rendezvous French Patisserie

If you don’t find Brigitte at the Saturday Market then you HAVE TO go to Rendezvous (unless for some strange reason you don’t like delicious authentic French patisserie and other sweet and savoury treats….)

You have to go round the back of the little complex that houses Rendezvous (Salt Spring Adventure is at the front) but once you find it – oh-la-la! Brigitte will have you wanting to go back for more (and more).

A must visit! Have I convinced you….?

A particular favourite is Canneles de Bordeaux, but there is so much to choose from.

126-4 Upper Ganges Road

Pomodoro's Pizza

Take out pizza in downtown Ganges (or there is some seating to dine in but its not really a restuarant). Pizza by the slice or whole pizza and also available to “take & bake”. They also have gluten free crusts.

The pizzas from here are a well done and a good choice if you just want take out.

142 Fulford Ganges Road

Falconshead Grill

Located at Salt Spring Golf Club, the grill offers a lunch and dinner menu, and Greek Night every Friday. The room is a little lacking in atmosphere (its basically a function room with bar and some tables) but does have views out over the course. Also available for private events.

We have only ever eaten at the Greek Night, and have to say that the food was very good even if the room lacks a little atmosphere. I am sure we will go back and try it again at some point.

805 Lower Ganges Road

Embe Bakery

A great place to drop into for typically bakery treats. Coffee and cookies and pies, bread and more. A favourite feeding spot for the island’s hard working contractors.

We like to grab a couple of sausage rolls (each!) before heading out on a hike – its a great deal if you buy two – or at least that is our excuse.

174 Fulford Ganges Road

Dagwood's Diner

OK so we have never been here – apparently is a good place for breakfast or a burger for lunch. We will put it on our list of places to visit and get back to you!

350 Lower Ganges Road

A downtown bistro with great views overlooking the harbour – outside seating is available. We have had friends give favourable comments on Calvins, and other reviews seem largely good. Our own experience here was of good food but a lack of atmosphere and we haven’t been back since to check.

We will go again for an update so my suggestion would be if you like the look of the menu give them a try – and feel free to leave a comment here to let us know.
